Blubber Experiment!
24th Sep 2025
Our P4 class explored how Arctic animals keep warm in freezing temperatures! First, we talked about the thick layer of blubber (fat) that animals like seals, whales and polar bears have under their skin. Then we carried out an experiment:
-
First, we put our hand in icy cold water – it felt freezing! ❄️
-
Next, we tried again with our hand inside the “blubber glove.” 🧤
-
We discovered the blubber kept our hand warm – just like it helps Arctic animals survive! 🐻❄️
This helped us understand how animals survive in the Arctic and Antarctic. The children loved trying it out and making real-life science connections.
