Eco Activities
We had a very busy week in school celebrating all things eco!
On Thursday, Gail from ASDA kindly delivered a selection of fruit for our pupils to taste. The children had the opportunity to try melon, dragon fruit, pomegranate, pineapple and apples, and enjoyed exploring some new flavours.
We also welcomed Nikole from Spar, who spoke to the pupils about the importance of local produce and how supporting local suppliers can benefit our environment.
On Friday we celebrated our Eco Day. P1 pupils took part in a minibeast hunt with their P7 buddies, while P2 enjoyed digging for ‘worms’ and using recycled paper to decorate butterflies. P3 planted sunflower seeds, and P4 linked their learning to their World War II topic by discussing ‘Dig for Victory’ before planting carrot, tomato and cucumber seeds.
P5 created minibeast habitat maps of the school grounds and made their own eco pledges, while P6 explored ways to reduce their carbon footprint. P7 began planning a debate on the topic ‘Should single-use plastic be banned?’
Nikole from Spar also returned to accompany the Eco Committee on a litter pick around the school grounds.
It was a fun-filled and educational week as we celebrated and learned more about caring for our environment.
