P6 Volcanoes

27th May 2026

Primary Six had great fun making and erupting model volcanoes as part of our science topic work. First, we assembled our volcano models and used paper mâché to secure and shape them. Once they had dried, we painted and decorated them to make them look realistic.

The most exciting part was creating the volcanic eruptions! We explored chemical reactions by mixing baking soda and vinegar together. We learned that vinegar is an acid and baking soda is an alkaline, and when they react they produce lots of fizzy bubbles and gas — just like a real volcanic eruption!

It was a fantastic hands-on science activity and everyone had lots of fun learning through investigation and creativity.
