Volcanic Eruptions 🌋
There may be a a volcanic eruption taking place on the Reykjanes peninsula in southwest Iceland and Mount Etna is also puffing out smoke rings, however here at St MacNissi’s we had our very own volcanic eruptions. We worked so well together to make our own volcano models using paper mache. In our groups we created our model and painted it. We then followed the scientific method to create our eruptions . We used washing up liquid; vinegar; bicarbonate of soda ; water and food colouring.
The science 🧪 behind it - we made a chemical reaction by mixing the acid (vinegar )and the alkali ( bicarbonate of soda ), bubbles of carbon dioxide were released like in pyroclastic flow. Watch our video and get ready for the explosive eruptions at the end!
