World Around Us in Primary Two - Camouflage

23rd Apr 2026
Primary Two have really enjoyed our topic "In The Garden". They have shown a great interest in minibeasts and they have learned some amazing facts, producing some wonderful artwork, as well as learning about life cycles and information texts. To conclude their topic, Primary Two took part in one final investigation. They became "birds" and had to find as many hidden "worms" as they could in the school playground in 5 minutes. Then, they gathered their "worms" in groups and displayed them on their investigation boards. They sorted them by colour and soon realised that they had lots of "worms" in some colours and very few in others. They noticed that pink and blue worms were very easy to find and that green worms were very hard to find. They set off again to have another look for green "worms", carefully checking and retracing their steps. After another 5 minutes, they evaluated their findings as a class, using their thumbs to determine how easy the worms were to find in particular colours. We used the word "camouflage" to explain why some worms are easier to find than others in the green grass. Finally, Primary Two explained their findings by answering some very important questions back in the classroom.
