Mental Health and Pupil Wellbeing
At St MacNissi's Primary School, we place pastoral care and health and wellbeing at the heart of everything we do, creating a safe, supportive environment where every child can thrive.
Our approach includes safeguarding through robust child protection policies and working closely with organisations including the emergency services, Women's Aid, NSPCC, Cruse, NI Hospice and RISE NI to ensure pupils feel secure and cared for. We promote positive mental health through initiatives like Take 5 Steps to Wellbeing, the Daily Mile, and our preventative curriculum, which teaches resilience and life skills.
Wellbeing Champions lead activities across the school, and our “Being Well, Doing Well” ethos underpins all learning. Each half term, we focus on a whole-school wellbeing theme, complemented by national events such as World Mental Health Day, Children’s Mental Health Week, and Anti-Bullying Week.
Pupils take an active role in creating a positive school culture through playground monitors and teacher-led play areas, ensuring playtimes are safe and inclusive.
Together, we aim to nurture happy, healthy learners who are ready to succeed.
